Car useful guidance
Here are some hints and tips to keep you on the road and on the move.
Maintaining a sports car or classic car
If you're lucky enough to own a sports car or a nice vintage classic here's a few maintenance tips to ensure care free motoring and fewer trips to the garage.
- Regularly check the brakes, the tyres, the oil and the steering system to make sure that everything is normal, especially with older cars, you may find elements can be less reliable
- The car's fuel consumption is a good indicator of any problems. If there is a sudden change in the number of miles per gallon, take the car to a garage
- Spark plugs should be changed every 100,000 miles but there is no harm in checking them every 30,000 miles
Security
Discourage car thieves with these deterrents and keep your car safe and sound.
- Use alarm stickers on the windows, but not ones that indicate which alarm system is being used
- Making sure that you have active alarm LED(s) that are clearly visible that will let the car thief know that an alarm is present and active
- A good long steering wheel lock should be used to prevent the steering wheel from turning
Driving in winter
Be safe on the road this winter by following this advice
- Even if a road's been gritted, black ice may still be present and is very hard to see, so still take extra care
- It is important to assemble a winter car emergency kit. This should include hazard triangles identifying an incident has happened, a small first aid kit, a small LED torch and, to protect you against the cold, you should have hats, gloves and emergency blankets
Protect your vehicles, including high value sports or classic cars, with a single car insurance policy.
